James Lee Sorenson
James Lee Sorenson is a nationally recognized business leader and entrepreneur who helped develop several new industry categories in today’s business world. When he founded Sorenson Media in 1995, Mr. Sorenson laid the foundation for the online video industry developing technology that enabled Apple QuickTime, Adobe Flash and YouTube to gain global prominence. Mr. Sorenson used his video compression expertise to create Sorenson Communications, the largest video relay service in the U.S. and transformed communication between deaf and hearing individuals vastly improving professional and personal opportunities for deaf individuals via the use of groundbreaking videophone technology. Over the past several decades, Mr. Sorenson has built a diverse array of highly productive industrial, commercial, residential, office and retail real estate holdings. In 2009, he led a team who acquired a $701 million structured portfolio of FDIC commercial real estate loans. Mr. Sorenson co-founded Sorenson Capital, Utah’s leading mid-market private equity firm, which has raised more than $650 million to invest in U.S. companies. Mr. Sorenson also serves on the boards of a number of charities and community organizations.
Alan E. Hall
Alan E. Hall is the founder and chairman of MarketStar Corporation, a global outsourced marketing and sales company with a focus on assisting high-technology companies increase sales through the small to medium business sectors. MarketStar, owned by Omnicom Group (OMC), generates billions of dollars in sales for its clientele. Mr. Hall is also the founder and chairman of Grow Utah Ventures, a not-for-profit entity with a mission of stimulating economic development through entrepreneurship. Recently, Mr. Hall established Mercato Partners, a growth equity venture capital firm which invests in high-growth technology companies. Alan is the chairman of the Utah Technology Council, a trustee of Weber State University, a member of the advisory board of Wells Fargo Bank, and a trustee of the Intermountain Healthcare Foundation. He has been the recipient of the Ernst & Young and Mountain West Capital Network Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
Charles E. Johnson
Charles E. Johnson is a Senior Advisor at Leavitt Partners, a healthcare advisory firm led by former Utah Governor and U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Michael O. Leavitt. Prior to joining Leavitt Partners, Mr. Johnson served as Acting Secretary of HHS from January 2009 until June 2009 during the transition from the Bush to the Obama Administration. Mr. Johnson served as Assistant Secretary for Resources and Technology/CFO at HHS from 2005 to 2009. Before joining HHS, he served as CFO of the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Johnson was President of Huntsman Cancer Foundation and Vice President of Huntsman LLC from 2001 to 2004. From 1997 to 2004, he also served as a member of the Utah State Board of Regents, which oversees all public institutions of higher education in the state of Utah. He served as Chair of the Board of Regents from December 1997 through May 2002. Before retiring in 1991, Mr. Johnson spent 31 years in the practice of public accounting, including service on the Board of Directors of KPMG and as Chairman of its Merger Transition Committee.
Scott S. Parker
Scott S. Parker is President Emeritus of Intermountain Healthcare. He was named the first president of Intermountain Healthcare in 1975, when the nonprofit healthcare system was formed, and he served in that position until his retirement in 1998. Under his leadership, Intermountain Healthcare rose to national prominence, and has been named the top integrated healthcare organization in the U.S. by Modern Healthcare magazine and the SMG research firm. Mr. Parker is a past president of the International Hospital Federation, an organization of more than 90 national hospital associations, and served as chair of the 4,000-plus-member American Hospital Association. He serves or has served on the boards of directors for multiple leading organizations, including the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, First Security Corporation, BMW Bank of North America and Questar Corporation. In addition to his extensive business experience and management, Mr. Parker brings with him a long history of community service and involvement with organizations such as the Utah Symphony, the University of Utah, Westminster College, and the Governor's Mansion Foundation.
Dr. Dinesh Patel
Dr. Dinesh Patel is a founding managing director of vSpring Capital. He has helped build and lead numerous innovative, successful companies, including: prominent biotech company Theratech, for which Dr. Patel served as CEO and chairman for 14 years, acquired by Watson Pharmaceuticals in 1999; WellCare, which he helped found, providing financing and strategic direction; Ashni Naturaceuticals, which he led from 1999 to 2004; and the novel gene therapy company Salus Therapeutics, acquired by Genta Inc. in 2003. Dr. Patel has 15 U.S. patents and foreign counterparts, and led investments in more than 30 life science/technology companies. He has been recognized with numerous awards for his accomplishments and service to humanity, including, among others: induction into the Utah Technology Council Hall of Fame; Utah Entrepreneur of the Year; the Utah Scientific and Technology Award; the Scientific and Technology Development Pioneer of Progress Award; and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. A charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), Dr. Patel currently serves on many non-profit boards, including chairman of the Utah Science Technology and Research initiative (USTAR).
Amy Rees Anderson
Amy Rees Anderson serves as the CEO of MediConnect Global the industry leader in innovative medical record retrieval, digitization and management for organizations and individuals. Amy is responsible for all aspects of MediConnect’s business including the overall management and strategic direction of the company. Under Anderson's leadership, MediConnect achieved more than 1,500-percent revenue growth from 2004-2010, and currently counts four of the five leading health insurers in the United States among its many clients. Prior to joining MediConnect, Amy founded and managed several successful healthcare technology ventures. As an entrepreneur and business leader she has raised over $50 million in capital, is a well respected public speaker, and teaches courses on entrepreneurship at several Universities. In 2007, Amy was awarded the prestigious Ernst &Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for her numerous accomplishments. Amy currently serves on numerous boards including: Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s Board of Economic Development (GOED), the Eccles School of Business National Advisory Board at the University of Utah and the Salt Lake City Chamber Board. She chairs the Utah State Motion Picture Advisory Committee and also sits on the Sundance Institute Advisory Board.
